Itinerary

Sam Talucci has assembled a curated culinary trip in Piedmont and Emilia Romagna. The trip begins in Torino, continuing to the Alba area which is famous for its white truffles. The trip is six nights and seven days. We will spend three days in Alba in the Langhe and Roero wine regions, which are renowned for their wines (Barolo, Barbaresco, Bardolino, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Arneis), cheese, and truffles. You will gain an understanding of Langhe as a DOC (Denominazione Origine Controllata) and that Barolo and Barbaresco two DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) within Langhe. In addition, we will visit Roero (DOCG), which sits on the NW banks of the Tanaro River. Activities include the Annual Truffle Festival, a private guided truffle hunt (this is optional at extra cost; please contact if interested), wine tastings, aperitivo, walking tours of Alba, and the vineyards. Then we spend three days in Bologna, which many consider the culinary capital of Italy, in Emilia Romagna (famous foods from this region Prosciutto, Culetto, Parmigiano Reggiano, Balsamic Vinegar, tortellini, Ragu alla Bolognese, and I could go on), Activities in Bologna include a walking tour of Bologna, and a hands on private cooking class at CIBO (Culinary Institute of Bologna) with my friend and colleague Stefano Scorvucci ( this is optional at an extra charge, contact if interested). This is an all-inclusive trip, from when you arrive at the hotel in Torino until we say arrivederci at breakfast in Bologna on 10/23.

Regions

Piedmont is a region situated in northwest Italy, hugging the borders of France and Switzerland and surrounded by the grandeur of the Alps and the lush Mediterranean. Home to the slow food movement, some of the most robust and famous red wines in Italy, along with Martini Rossi, Vermouth, and the desert like bicerin. Barolo was born here, "Barolo is not just wine – it’s culture, lifestyle, the blood in our veins." Silvia Marchetti, The Guardian
